Time to Celebrate Moms

happy-mothers-day-images8May is the month to celebrate moms and show our love and appreciation for all they have done for us. Read on for a special Mother’s Day Giveaway!

My mom, Dorothy Swain, was a wonderful artist, quilter, seamstress, and writer. She enjoyed decorating our home and making it a special place. We used to joke about never trying to walk through the living room in the dark because Mom might have rearranged the furniture since we’d last looked. From the time I was a young child, she put a paintbrush in my hands and encouraged my creativity. I’m very grateful for that. Mom used to sew most of my clothes. I remember seeing her bending over the sewing machine when I went to bed and then waking up to find a new dress finished and ready to wear. Mom passed away before my books were published, but I know she’d be happy to have another writer in the family. In the photos below: Mom and I on Easter, I think I’m three years old. My Mother-in-law, Shirley Turansky, is a treasure. She continues what my mom started, encouraging me to use my gifts and talents. She is a huge supporter of my writing and often tells her friends about my books. I am very blessed to have these wonderful women in my life. Now I hope to pass on that blessing and encouragement to my daughters Melissa, Lizzy, and Megan, my daughters-in-law Melinda and Galan, and my granddaughters Hanalei and Sahlor. 1. You do such a great job on your blog and I so appreciate your comments about everyone. You put a lot of effort into this – and I can see it even in searching out all of these special pictures. What a joy to read.
I would loved to have become better acquainted w/ your mom. Such a gifted woman! As are you.! You are a great mom and super daughter in law

  2. My mom is someone who is always there, no matter what and while she isn’t the perfect mom, she is the perfect mom for me. 🙂

  3. My mom is no longer with us, but what a admired most was her love for her family, she was my best friend and I miss her always.

  4. My mom took me to serve in food kitchens sometimes, serving homeless and struggling families. I want to do the same things with my kids.

  5. My Mother was always there for me. She would help everyone and was always the life of the party. She had such a kind heart.

  6. My mother always told me the truth. Even when I didn’t appreciate it or want to hear it. She never took “my side” in anything if I was in the wrong. I didn’t doubt her love for me or for anyone else either. She has been gone for 15 years. She left with me a love for the truth…..Even when I don’t like it. Whenever I am facing difficult decisions, I think what would mom do, it helps me tremendously. Because she always done what was right although it was rarely what was popular.

  7. My mom was always so caring and giving. Always thinking of others. She was my best friend, I could talk to her about anything! The things I learn from her are forever in my heart!
    Blessings. Joy

  8. I appreciate my mom and her heart in teaching us to persevere through hard times and look on the bright side. She raised 11 children in hard circumstances, and yet always was a bright, happy spot for us. She made life an adventure instead of a trial and gave us tenacity to stick with things, even when it was rough. She is fun to be around and works harder than anyone I know.

  9. I could name many, but one is she taught me to love Jesus and is always a a Godly example to others.

  10. My Mom is incredibly strong and a wonderful role model for all of us. Her heart is big especially for the elderly, especially those she cares for at the nursing home she is a nurse at.

  11. I’m thankful for my mom because she was courageous enough to take me to church and teach me about Jesus even though my unsaved dad forbade it.

  12. I’m thankful for my mom’s faith in Christ and her example of being a woman who found prayer and Bible study a priority in her life.

  13. I loved hearing about your moms! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with me. The winner of the Mother’s Day Giveaway is Martha Artyomenko!
