Royal WeddingHi Friends,

It’s Royal Wedding Week! On Saturday, May 19th, England’s Prince Harry will marry American, Meghan Markle, and I’ve teamed up with four author friends to celebrate this special occasion. We want to invite you to take part in our Royal Wedding Giveaway! Keep reading for a fun look back at an earlier Royal wedding and a chance to win all these great books pictured below.

Royal Wedding

We all write novels set in England in different eras, so we’ll each tell you about the royal family or royal wedding during our era.

Sarah Ladd, author of The Weaver’s Daughter (Regency)

Joanna Politano, author of Lady Jayne Disappears (Victorian)

Carrie Turansky, author of Across the Blue (Edwardian)

Sarah Sundin, author of The Sea Before Us (World War II)

Katherine Reay, author of The Austen Escape (Contemporary).

An Edwardian Royal Wedding

The royal wedding of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, who was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria, took place on May 31, 1906 at the Royal Monastery of San Jerónimo in Madrid, Spain.

Royal WeddingPrincess Victoria Eugenie, who was known as Ena, was the only daughter of Prince Henry of Battenberg and Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria. They met in 1905 when Alfonso visited England and spotted Ena across the dinner table at Buckingham Palace. He admired her blond hair and was happy to see her again at a royal reception the next night and a ball the third night.

But there were some problems to overcome during courtship. He did not speak English and she did not speak Spanish. Fortunately, they both spoke French. He was Roman Catholic, and she was Anglican. If the marriage was going to take place, she would have to agree to convert. She agreed, and they went on to marry and have six children. Would you like to read more about Alfonso and Ena? Check out this website.

Royal WeddingWill you be watching the Royal Wedding? PBS has special coverage this week, leading up to the ceremony on Saturday morning. I’ll be Gaithersburg, MD for the Gaithersburg Book Festival, but I’ll be getting up early to watch the festivities from my hotel room before I head over to the festival.

The book I’m giving away is Across the Blue. It’s set in Kent, England, in 1909 and tells the story of an aspiring journalist and an aviation pioneer, and includes romance, adventure, inspiration, and a mystery. It has more than 100 great reviews on Amazon with 4.7 star rating. You can read the first chapter and see photos of the characters and settings on this page

The Royal Wedding Giveaway runs May 15-19, 2018. Open to US residents only. No purchase necessary. One winner will be randomly selected via Rafflecopter and will be contacted via email. If the winner does not collect the prize within 2 weeks of notification, the prize will be forfeited. Thanks for taking part and for sharing this giveaway with your friends!

This will be some event, I am thinking to have the children watch it. We all don’t end up marrying to such a high estate, but it’s nice to know that love is in the air and it is nice to see couples make vows that will Lord willing last forever and that since they are in the public eye, that others will consider marriage as a lifelong commitment before God and man. Exciting Giveaway and such a lovely mug to commemorate the event!
