Royal Wedding Giveaway

Hi Friends,

It’s Royal Wedding Week! On Saturday, May 19th, England’s Prince Harry will marry American, Meghan Markle, and I’ve teamed up with four author friends to celebrate this special occasion. We want to invite you to take part in our Royal Wedding Giveaway! Keep reading for a fun look back at an earlier Royal wedding and a chance to win all these great books pictured below.

We all write novels set in England in different eras, so we’ll each tell you about the royal family or royal wedding during our era.

Sarah Ladd, author of The Weaver’s Daughter (Regency)

Joanna Politano, author of Lady Jayne Disappears (Victorian)

Carrie Turansky, author of Across the Blue (Edwardian)

Sarah Sundin, author of The Sea Before Us (World War II)

Katherine Reay, author of The Austen Escape (Contemporary).

An Edwardian Royal Wedding

The royal wedding of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, who was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria, took place on May 31, 1906 at the Royal Monastery of San Jerónimo in Madrid, Spain.

Princess Victoria Eugenie, who was known as Ena, was the only daughter of Prince Henry of Battenberg and Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria. They met in 1905 when Alfonso visited England and spotted Ena across the dinner table at Buckingham Palace. He admired her blond hair and was happy to see her again at a royal reception the next night and a ball the third night.

But there were some problems to overcome during courtship. He did not speak English and she did not speak Spanish. Fortunately, they both spoke French. He was Roman Catholic, and she was Anglican. If the marriage was going to take place, she would have to agree to convert. She agreed, and they went on to marry and have six children. Would you like to read more about Alfonso and Ena? Check out this website.

Will you be watching the Royal Wedding? PBS has special coverage this week, leading up to the ceremony on Saturday morning. I’ll be Gaithersburg, MD for the Gaithersburg Book Festival, but I’ll be getting up early to watch the festivities from my hotel room before I head over to the festival.

The book I’m giving away is Across the Blue. It’s set in Kent, England, in 1909 and tells the story of an aspiring journalist and an aviation pioneer, and includes romance, adventure, inspiration, and a mystery. It has more than 100 great reviews on Amazon with 4.7 star rating. You can read the first chapter and see photos of the characters and settings on this page

The Royal Wedding Giveaway runs May 15-19, 2018. Open to US residents only. No purchase necessary. One winner will be randomly selected via Rafflecopter and will be contacted via email. If the winner does not collect the prize within 2 weeks of notification, the prize will be forfeited. Thanks for taking part and for sharing this giveaway with your friends!

Mother’s Day Giveaway

Hi Friends,  Do you have plans to celebrate and honor the special women in your life this weekend? I’ll be enjoying Mother’s Day morning with my Calvary Chapel Living Hope family, and then in the afternoon I’ll get together with family and a few friends for a picnic lunch, hopefully outside on the patio. It’s a beautiful time of the year in New Jersey, and I often plant annual flowers in my yard on Mothers Day weekend. Geraniums, marigolds, and snapdragons are some of my favorites.

May is the month to celebrate moms and show our love and appreciation for all they have done for us. Read on for a special Mother’s Day Giveaway!

My mom, Dorothy Swain, was a wonderful artist, quilter, seamstress, and writer. She enjoyed decorating our home and making it a special place. From the time I was a young child, she put a paintbrush in my hands and encouraged my creativity. I’m very grateful for that. Mom used to sew most of my clothes. I remember seeing her bending over the sewing machine when I went to bed and then waking up to find a new dress finished and ready to wear. Mom passed away before my books were published, but I know she’d be happy to have another writer in the family. That’s Mom and me at my cousins wedding when I was 21.

My Mother-in-law, Shirley Turansky, is a treasure. She continues what my mom started, encouraging me to use my gifts and talents. She is a huge supporter of my writing and often tells her friends about my books. I am very blessed to have these wonderful women in my life. She’s in the center between me and Melissa.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I’m giving away an audio-book copy of Shine Like the Dawn, which is a finalist for the HOLT Medallion. This giveaway is for US residents only and ends Monday May 14th, 9:00 pm Eastern time.

May Giveaway!

Hi Friends,

I’m just passing the halfway mark in writing Finding Her Way Home. This English historical novel follows the story of the four  McAllister siblings when the younger three become British home children and are taken away to Canada without their mother’s knowledge or permission. The oldest sister sets off to find them and reunite the family, but she can’t do it alone. A young lawyer who is investigating Child emigration for the British government teams up with the oldest sister to help her search for her siblings. I hope the adventure, romance, and inspiration will make this an enjoyable story for you. The research has been fascinating for me. Here’s a look at some of my research books.

Each month I’m hosting a special giveaway for newsletter subscribers. My email newsletter goes out every other month with book news, giveaways, recipes, and encouraging articles. I hope you’ll visit my website and subscribe, and then leave a comment below this post to enter this month’s giveaway. If you already subscribe to my newsletter, just mention that in your comment, and I will put your name in the drawing!  I will announce the winner the first week of June and announce the next giveaway here on my blog, so check back often.

This month I’m giving away Not by Sight by Kate Breslin and A Name Unknown by Roseanna M. White. If you enjoy historical romance, then you’ll love these two books! Visit Kate’s website for more info about her and her books. And visit Roseanna’s website for info about her and her books.
