BookStand-300Hi Friends,

I know many of you are avid readers of Christian fiction . . . so how do you keep up with what’s new in Christian fiction and how do you find the next book you’d like to read? I’d like to tell you about NovelCrossing – a great website for readers!

Publisher websites are excellent for featuring their titles and authors. Book retailers have good, up-to-date, thorough book data and include reader reviews. Christian Fiction Online Magazine, Family Fiction, Title Trakk and others have features and interviews of favorite authors. Shelfari and Goodreads offer reader community options but cover all books and all genres. So where can an avid reader of Christian fiction go to find all that, across all publishers, at one Website? You can visit Novel Crossing, the Intersection of Fiction and Faith!

Here’s what Novel Crossing has for you:

Want to find your favorite Christian fiction author?

Currently 800+ novelists can be found on the Website, including favorites Francine Rivers, Karen Kingsbury, Jerry Jenkins, Ted Dekker, and hundreds of others. More are being added each day. By visiting your Novel Crossing author pages, you will find bios, photographs, and links to their presence in the digital world, including Websites, Facebook, and Twitter options. Authors are able to customize their own pages as well, giving them ability to leave messages for readers, upload videos or new photos.

A Christmas Gift for RoseTricia’s new novel: A Christmas Gift for Rose!

Rose turned her back on the man she loves after he assisted the Englisch during World War II—only to discover she’s an Englischer herself.

Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family. But she is overwhelmed by self-doubt when she learns that she was born Englisch and abandoned when her family moved West in search of work.

Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind—Englischers? When the man she loves leaves her behind, Rose is certain he left for good. Yet Rose discovers sometimes our greatest gifts are the ones we fear.

I was sitting at a long table with my bookstore owner friends and three Amish couples. We were chatting about some of the true stories that inspired my novels when one of the Amish men paused with his forkful of mashed potatoes halfway to his lips.

“I might have a story idea for you,” Myron said.

I nodded and smiled. I hear this comment often. Everyone has a story idea—from the person sitting next to me on the airplane, to my Bible study leader, to my husband’s best friend. Everyone.

“Really, what is it?” I asked.

“Well, it’s my grandma’s story. She was born Englisch, but during the Great Depression her parents were dirt poor. Every day they sent her to their Amish neighbor’s house around mealtime. They had nothing to offer and the Amish family always had compassion. One day when the neighbors took my grandmother home, her parents were gone! They said they loved her but had nothing to offer. They knew she’d be able to survive with the Amish family, so they left her there.”

My eyes filled with tears, and I pushed back my slice of coconut cream pie. Before I could ask more questions, the conversation moved to another direction. Still that story lingered. What would it be like to grow up Amish and then discover such truth?

I thought about the Great Depression. My grandma lives with me, and she’s told me lots of stories. She took a bath in a tin tub and only had one dress. They ate the same food every day—beans and bread—but she didn’t think much of it. As I thought about my Amish character, whom I named Rose, my grandma’s stories wove their way into my thinking. Rose began to come alive.

Then I considered the type of man Rose would love. He’d be strong and brave, and he’d have something to say about World War II . . . the war going on just as they entered adulthood. My mind traveled to WWII veterans whom I’ve interviewed. One veteran, Bill Mann, was a Christian pacifist. He felt shooting anyone was wrong—even an enemy—so he became an ambulance driver. The Amish were also pacifists, yet a few joined the military to join the medical corp. They followed their beliefs even though their whole community was against just a thing.

Three stories from three different people who lived the same generation merged to form Rose and Jonathan’s story. These characters came alive as I thought about the real people who inspired them.

I never get tired of hearing people’s stories, and now you know why. There is so much rich emotion and history in every gray-haired person. My job is to pull those stories out and give readers some enjoyment, while also providing a glimpse into the past. I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing than that!

You can purchase Tricia’s novel, A Christmas Gift for Rose, at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, CBD, or at your local bookstore.
