Hi Friends,

This month I’m busy working on my next English historical novel, Finding Her Way Home. The story focuses on the McAllister Family and what happens when the three youngest children are sent to Canada as British Home Children without the knowledge or permission of their mother. From 1869 – 1939 more than 100,000 poor and orphaned children were emigrated to Canada. A few were adopted, but most became indentured household servants and farm workers. We’re talking about children, many who were much too young to be expected to do that kind of work. The research has been intense and heartrending, but it’s a story that needs to be told. These children should never be forgotten. If you’d like a peek at the characters and setting, visit my Pinterest board.

Each month I’m hosting a special giveaway for newsletter subscribers. My email newsletter goes out every other month with book news, giveaways, recipes, and encouraging articles. I hope you’ll visit my website and subscribe, and then leave a comment below this post to enter this month’s giveaway. If you already subscribe to my newsletter, just mention that in your comment, and I will put your name in the drawing!  I will announce the winner the first week of May and announce the next giveaway here on my blog.

This month I’m giving away The Innkeeper’s Daughter by Michelle Griep and A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green. If you enjoy historical romance, then you’ll love these two books! Visit Michelle’s website for more info about her and her books. And visit Jocelyn’s website for info about her and her books.

Until next time, Happy Reading,

Hi Carrie! I’m a new subscriber and I’m so excited to read your new book! I have a special place in my heart for children! I taught kindergarten in a Christian school for five years and my children taught ME so much! My husband & I are in the process of becoming foster parents and my heart breaks to think of any child in any era suffering abuse of any form. I hope your book shines light on the deeds of the past and we readers have a new awareness of the abuse taking place today. God bless your ministry!

I am a subscriber. As I read through your post, I was reminded of other post which I have read of the things that were expected from young children at such an early age. It is indeed heartbreaking! And, many never to see their loved ones again, families torn apart…breaks my heart! Thank you for writing about this and bringing attention descendant’s of theses children can be found, reunited?

  32. Grace Yost
    Grace Yost says:

Part of my comment was left out. It was supposed to say is there a possibility that descendants of these children can be found

    • Carrie Turansky
      Carrie Turansky says:

Hi Grace, thank you for this question. There are many descendants who are searching for information about their relatives who came to Canada as British Home Children. There is a wonderful group on Facebook called British Home Children Advocacy and Research Association that helps provide information about how to do those searches. That’s how I first learned about British Home Children. It has been fascinating to read many of the true accounts.
